Services
The moment of reaching out for help can be the most vulnerable for someone going through a difficult time. That’s why — in everything we do at Beatitude House — we use care and compassion.
The services offered at Beatitude House combine educational services with housing and support programs. We offer two housing programs for the disadvantaged women of the Valley.
Transitional Housing
The transitional housing program is a two-year program that provides a combination of services. To be eligible, a woman must have custody of at least one child age 13 or younger, be willing to attend a full-time educational or career preparation program and be drug and alcohol free for at least one year.
We believe in personal growth, education, parenting skills and a safe place to call home as the keys to successful completion of the transitional housing. Ninety percent (90%) of the families that complete the program find permanent housing.
Personal Growth
A woman’s journey through the program begins with compassion and encouragement and continues along the way. In the beginning, each woman sets her own goals for the program. Our counselors work closely with each mother to support her and guide her in making wise choices. Through this, she is able to take control of her life.
Education
Consistent with Sister Margaret’s belief in education, the transitional housing program uses education to begin the process of starting a new life. Women are able to receive educational training to pass the GED or help in continuing their education at a college or vocational training facility.
Parenting
While in the program, the women learn ways to improve parenting skills. Helping the children develop self-confidence and a sense of responsibility ensures that the future generations inherit healthy parenting skills. All of this is done in an atmosphere of love and respect to facilitate the best results.
Home
Providing a safe house for their children is essential to making a positive change in a mother’s life… and her child’s life. The furnished apartments are supplied with all the necessary household items.
Permanent Supportive Housing
In addition to the transitional housing program, Beatitude House also offers a new permanent supportive housing option in Mahoning County. It is here that a woman can take the skills she has learned at Beatitude House and live her life on her own.
To be eligible, a woman must be homeless with a documented disability or with a child whose disability prevents her from working, and be drug free for one year or have a recommendation from a recovery program.
Women in this program receive regular home visits from a staff member. A lease agreement is arranged by the woman and, if she becomes able to maintain her life without support from Beatitude House, she may leave the program and keep her housing.
The permanent supportive housing program includes 12 units of subsidized housing, 10 for women with children and two for single women. Women may choose their own location and we will provide a liaison between the landlord and the client. Sites must be in Mahoning County.
To aid women in reaching their goals, we also offer support services for families including case management, budgeting and time management to maintain stability and prevent housing loss.
Services
The services provided at Beatitude House assist with the housing programs and facilitate the achievement of goals set by the women. We strive to offer well-rounded programs with a focus on betterment of the individual through education, care and compassion. Through the empowerment of the individual, the women go on to develop their personal education goals to secure and maintain meaningful employment, family stability and continued economic growth.
