  Transitional and Permanent Housing

Education, counseling and supportive services empower women to achieve permanent housing and economic stability for their families. The two-year transitional housing program of Beatitude House provides these services for homeless women with children. In order to be eligible, a homeless woman must have custody of at least one child age 13 or younger, be willing to attend a full-time educational or career preparation program and be drug and alcohol free for at least one year.

PERSONAL GROWTH
Each woman sets her goals and starts the journey with much encouragement along the way. Counselors work closely with her to support her in making wise choices and taking control of her life.

EDUCATION
Some women begin to create a better life for themselves by studying to pass the GED exam. Others further their education by attending a university or a vocational training facility. Current successes include a woman who has gone on to become a college instructor. Another has pursued her dream of becoming a diesel mechanic. Others are computer technicians, nurses, and librarians.

PARENTING
To break the cycle of abuse and neglect, women learn to improve their parenting skills in a loving, respectful atmosphere. They learn to help their children develop self-confidence and a sense of responsibility so that future generations inherit healthy, not hurtful, parenting skills.

A PLACE TO CALL HOME
Because some women and their children have fled from abuse with only the clothes on their backs, the furnished apartments where the women live are supplied with the necessary household items. Mothers can provide a safe home for themselves and their children while they make positive changes in their lives.

90% of the families who complete the transitional housing program find permanent housing.
