Summer Camp Offered in Warren

by beatitudehouse 21. June 2010 04:58

Beatitude House has teamed up with the Urban Minority Alcohol and Drug Addiction Outreach Program to offer a summer camp for children living at Beatitude House and the surrounding neighborhood. The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from June 28 through Aug. 23.  The camp is open to children ages 5-12.  The camp is free but registrations will be held on a first-come, first-served basis with approximately 25 slots available.

The collaboration with UMADAOP means the camp will reach even more children in need of summer activities. The outreach program approached Beatitude House about collaborating because UMADAOP already was planning a summer camp but needed a facility.  UMADAOP will provide the activities, which will include energizers and ice-breakers, arts and crafts, games and educational activities centered around themes such as self-esteem, hygiene and cleanliness, personal safety, being healthy and conflict resolution.  Beatitude House will provide a nutritious meal or snack each day of camp and also will offer 90-minute karate lessons or music lessons after camp ends at 3 p.m.

Registration for the summer camp will be held at 10 a.m. Monday  June 21 at Beatitude House, 1370 Tod Ave. N.W., Warren. The free camp is open to children ages 5 to 12, and will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from June 28 through Aug. 23. For more information, call Sister Carla Rutter at 330-399-1971.

Families attend Disney on Ice

by beatitudehouse 12. January 2010 03:54

This past holiday season, families living at A House of Blessing in Youngstown and Warren attended Disney on Ice at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown. The group included fifty mothers and children, the youngest child was 18 months and the oldest 16 years.  Sr. Carla Rutter, Child Advocate in Warren said, "Everyone had a wonderful time.  I had a little one on my lap who was wide-eyed the entire time."

The outing was made possible thanks to members of Sr. Carla's family and the Patty McNicholas Enrichement Fund.  Activities such as this enable Beatitude House to foster healthy families, one of the areas Beatitude House mission focuses on.

Ready for little shoppers!

by beatitudehouse 18. December 2009 09:32

Thanks to the generosity of so many groups and individuals in our area, the children of Beatitude House will have the opportunity to "shop" for that perfect gift for their mother at our annual Santa's Workshop day.  Staff and volunteers have worked hard preparing the store for the little shoppers.  After selecting the gifts, the children wrap them and the hard part is waiting until Christmas to present them to mom!
