School aged children at Beatitude House are ready to go back to school thanks to the generosity of the community. On August 13th a mock store was set up for the children to come "shop for" (select) school supplies. The children received notebooks, folders, binders, crayons, markers, pens, pencils, calculators, glue, rulers, colored pencils, etc. as well as school uniforms. Next week thanks to a donation from Huntington Bank, the children will have backpacks as well.

There is a cook out planned to celebrate the last session of day camp at A House of Blessing Warren. Throughout the summer the children have made crafts, learned team building skills, and developed self-esteem. The camp is the result of a collaboration between Beatitude House and UMADAOP (Urban Minority Alcohol & Drug Addiction Outreach Program).
"The children have really enjoyed themselves and are sad to see the camp come to an end," said Sr. Carla Beatitude House Child Advocate.

A building once vibrant, overflowing with hope for the future will be given a new purpose and a chance to again provide hope for the future. As Beatitude House looks to expand its transitional housing program into Ashtabula at the site of the former St. Joseph School. The school closed its doors in 1990 and has been sitting vacant for over 20 years.
The property has been re-zoned – making it possible for Beatitude House to expand into Ashtabula. Over $250,000 has been committed to this project. Beatitude House is currently applying for $500,000 from the Federal Home Loan Bank. An additional $150,000 is still needed to complete this project. Upon receipt of funding, renovations will begin to turn this unused building into 10 fully furnished apartments for homeless women. The goal is to welcome the first families into Beatitude House Ashtabula in the fall of 2011.

The mothers and children of Beatitude House recently enjoyed a trip to Wagon Trails Animal Park in Vienna, OH. There they took a "safari" trip to experience animals in their natural habitat. Waterbuffalo, zebra, bison, deer, alpacas, camels, sheep, and goats were among the many animals they saw. The ostrich was the hit of day as it tried to snatch the feeding buckets from the children.
After the sarari ride the children enjoyed feeding baby animals at the petting zoo.
