Gifts needed for Santa's Workshop

by beatitudehouse 28. October 2009 08:48

Every Christmas, the children of Beatitude House make a trip to "Santa's Workshop" to choose presents for their mothers for Christmas.  Thanks to the generosity of the community we are able to transform our administrative offices into "Santa's Workshop".  Currently we are seeking donations for the workshop.

Items can be something practical such as gloves or socks, or something not-so-practical like lotion/bath sets, perfume or picture frames.  Unfortunately, Beatitude House is unable to accept candles.

Donations of new, unwrapped gifts can be made Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm at Beatitude House administrative offices at 238 Tod Lane on the grounds of St. Edward Parish in Youngstown.  Please feel free to contact 330-744-3147 with any questions.

Award winners honored

by beatitudehouse 21. October 2009 09:38

Stacy Gaugler and Janice Stenson were presented the Sr. Margaret Scheetz Achievement Award at the 7th annual Cornerstone Dinner.  The women, graduates of Beatitude House were recognized for the values Sr. Margaret stood for: hard work, perserverance, education and love of the Beatitude House programs.

Stacy completed the Warren transitional housing program and was the first Warren Beatitude House graduate to be awarded a Habitat for Humanity house.  Stacy's determination to make a better life for her children and courage to persevere enabled her to earn her Medical Assistant certification and find a full-time job while at Beatitude House.  She is currently enrolled in school to become an RN and is busy with her daughters' activities.  Stacy credits Beatitude House in helping her find her way, "I figured out who I was and what I wanted out of life from Beatitude," said Stacy.  "Everyone was always there for me."

Janice applied for Beatitude House as a last hope.  Immediately after moving into the transitional housing program, Janice began her studies at YSU and started working toward making positive changes in her life.  Currently she works for a drug and alcohol program, using her own experience to help others.  Janice and her daughter moved into their own apartment.  Janice credits Beatitude House for getting her life in order, "They gave me direction for finding my purpose," she explains. "When I had no one, they had my back."

Congratulations to Stacy and Janice for all they have accomplished!

Green Clean to give back to the community

by beatitudehouse 21. October 2009 07:32

Beatitude House Green Clean has given a group of low-income women a chance at a new start. They have not only found employment but are focused on a bright future for themselves and their families.  Feeling blessed, they decided to find a way to give back to the community.

Upon hearing of The Kaluza Project, and the goal to provide this family with a handicap friendly home, the group knew immediately they wanted to be involved. Members of Beatitude House Green Clean learned of The Kaluza Project at the Canfield Fair.  They decided to donate their time but doing what they do best – cleaning!

On Tuesday November 10, Beatitude House Green Clean will clean the current Kaluza family home to assist them in preparation for their move into their new home which is expected to be ready in December.

The group felt this was a great way to give back to the community. “We wanted to reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves,” said Tawanda, a Beatitude House Green Clean member.
