Local Scout Helps Beatitude House

by beatitudehouse 14. September 2009 09:41

In desperate need of shelves for our storage area, Beatitude House sent out a plea in a recent newsletter asking for volunteer to assist with this need. Working towards becoming an Eagle Scout, Erice Mirto needed to complete a community service project. Eric responded to our request and with some help from his father he built shelves for our storage area.

A very special thank you to Eric for building our shelves. We have turned previously wasted space into much needed storage space.

A day at Geneva-on-the-Lake

by beatitudehouse 14. September 2009 05:32

On Sunday, 65 mothers and children from Beatitude House enjoyed a day in the sun at Geneva-on-the-Lake compliments of Difference Makers. Founded in 1993, the Difference Makers is a charitable nonproift organization dedicated to helping those in need, especially children.

After a picnic lunch the children enjoyed waterslides, rides and games throughout the day. Sr. Carla Rutter, Child Advocate in Warren said, "We enjoyed lunch together then off they went, I didnt see them the rest of the day. They had a blast."

For at least the past ten years a group from Beatitude House has enjoyed a day at Geneva thanks to the Difference Makers. Many lives in the area have been touched by the group. They operate a food pantry and provide food, clothing, and gift cards to families in need.

Day of Caring helps Beatitude House

by beatitudehouse 11. September 2009 06:13

Dressed in white Live United shirts, volunteers involved with United Way's Day of Caring reached out to help Beatitude House. At A House of Blessing in Youngstown, volunteers painted doors, cleaned and spruced up the landscaping. Making the area welcoming to the homeless families living there.

At The Potter's Wheel, volunteers cleaned, washed walls and prepared an apartment used in the Permanent Supportive Housing program. Kelly Elko director of The Potter's Wheel said "It is wonderful that anytime we need help someone from the community is willing and able to help."

Beatitude House receives funding from the United Way for their summer programing for children. This past summer thanks in part to the United Way, children in Beatitude House programs were able to attend camp and participate in summer sports leagues.
