Beatitude House Mission Statement
Beatitude House, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters, is
committed to disadvantaged women
and children in the Mahoning Valley. In an
atmosphere of care and compassion,
the programs focus on counseling to
promote self development and education to obtain needed skills.
Through this
holistic approach, both women and children are empowered with the work
habits
and motivation to realize their full
potential.

OFFICE HOURS: 8 - 4 Daily
Transitional Housing, Youngstown and Warren
A self development program for homeless women with children.
Criteria:
- Age 18 or older.
- Submits written application.
- Attends minimum of two interviews to assess readiness to set and carry out
educational goals.
- Free of chemical dependency for one year or as recommended by recovery
agency referral.
- Passes urine screening for alcohol or drug use.
- Meets HUD standards of homelessness.
- Income not about 35% AMI.
- Custody of at least one child age 12 or younger (or case plan for
reunification).
- Is willing to commit to a full program which requires enrolling in further
education on a full time basis.
- Follows program rules including curfew hours of 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and 90
day reviews of goals achieved.
Services:
- Weekly counseling, case management and group sessions.
- Resident manager on site.
- Child advocate on staff, parenting classes.
- Rent calculated on income (approx. 30% or less).
- Mandatory savings account.
- Supportive services continues after placement in permanent housing.

The Potter's Wheel Program, Youngstown
A daytime (8:30 - 3:00) education and career preparation program for
disadvantaged women.
Criteria:
- Age 18 or older.
- Submits written application.
- Attends minimum of two interviews to assess readiness to set and carry out
educational goals.
- Free of chemical dependency for 6 months or as recommended by recovery
agency referral.
- Passes urine screening for alcohol or drug abuse.
Services:
- Individualized goal setting and 90 day reviews.
- GED and basic skills education.
- Computer literacy education.
- Job readiness.
- Life skills.
- College preparation classes.
- Parenting programs.
- Budgeting.
- Counseling and case management.
- Approved site for cash assistance work hours (WEP).

Permanent Supportive Housing
Criteria:
- Homeless woman with a documentable disability or with a child whose
disability prevents her from working.
- Drug free for one year or have a recommendation from a recovery program.
- Regular home visits with a staff member.
- Maintenance of own residence.
- Lease agreement with landlord, not Beatitude House. If person becomes able
to maintain herself without support, she can keep her housing and not be in
Beatitude House program.
Services:
- 12 units of subsidized housing (10 available for women with children and 2
available for single women).
- Client can choose her own location. Beatitude House will provide liaison
between the landlord and the client. The particular site must fit into the
financial ability of both the agency and the individual.
- The site must be in Mahoning County.
- Subsidized rent and some utility assistance available, depending on
income.
- Support services: case management--budgeting, time management--to maintain
stability, prevent loss of housing.
- Networking with other agencies; client will be expected to maintain
compliance with agency requirements.

Educational Opportunities

life skills.

Child Advocacy
- Parenting classes for all the mothers that include child development and
appropriate discipline.
- Enrichment activities for children, families
- After-school tutoring
- Assessment of each child to determine services needed in counseling,
tutoring, school intervention, and preventive health care.
- Facilitation of follow up on appointments made with counseling or school
personnel, as needed.
- Facilitation of communications with other agencies concerning child
related matters such as day care, or the child enforcement agency.
- Work with parents on matters that pertain to their children.
Child advocacy is part of Beatitude House programming.
